Haggerty Creek Ltd. is a 2,000-acre cash-crop farm plus a retail crop-inputs and grain-handling elevator operation near Bothwell, Ontario (Dawn-Euphemia Township, Lambton County). Founded in April 2001 as a 50/50 joint venture between brothers Chuck and Justin Baresich and AGRIS Co-operative Ltd. (a 100%-farmer-owned grain marketing and farm-input supply co-operative serving 1,000+ farmer-owners in 14 locations across Chatham-Kent, Essex, and Middlesex).

The operation serves the “four counties area” — Alvinston, Rodney, Newbury, Rutherford — across Dawn-Euphemia Township (Lambton County), Zone Township (Kent County), Mosa Township (Middlesex County), and Aldborough Township (Elgin County), extending into parts of Brooke, Enniskillen, and Orford Townships. The name is geographic, not proprietary: essentially the lands drained into Haggerty Creek. Bothwell area is known for sharp sandy soil — corn is the dominant crop.

Grain-handling scale. 270,000 bu permanent storage (2001) + 400,000 bu temporary corn storage (2008) + 400,000 bu permanent grain storage (2012) = 1.07M bu combined capacity. 10,000 bph unload capacity. Built by local contractors (Lambton Conveyor, Precision Concrete, Honey Electric) — explicitly an owner-community-anchored build.

Joint venture structure. AGRIS Co-operative (the Chatham-Kent 100%-farmer-owned co-operative and GROWMARK FS System affiliate) holds 50% of Haggerty Creek Ltd. The Baresich brothers (Chuck and Justin) hold the other 50%. This is structurally distinct from a family farm: it is a farmer-cooperative hybrid, and is the operating model that the Innovation Farms Ontario AIVA hub inherits.

What Haggerty Creek Ltd. is doing in the agrifood AI picture

Haggerty Creek Ltd. is the farm substrate for two named agritech/AIVA entities:

1. Haggerty AgRobotics Co. (separate entity, founded by Chuck Baresich as President). The agtech deployment arm — autonomous robotics, AI validation, project delivery. Lead on CAAIN §1.5 (“Feasibility of an Autonomous Solution for Optimized Application of Livestock Manure,” Bothwell ON, $508,415 ask / $1,511,878 total value, completed December 2025).
2. Innovation Farms Ontario powered by FCC AgExpert — the AIVA Network’s fourth validation hub. Innovation Farms Ontario is a four-partner collaboration: FCC (financial + AgExpert data backbone), Western Fair Association (The Grove at Western Fair District, London ON), Haggerty AgRobotics, RHA Ventures (London ON ag/food VC). The Innovation Farms Ontario site is located at Haggerty Creek Ltd. — the Baresich farm is the substrate the AIVA hub validates on. A second site in Niagara complements the Bothwell site.

The Innovation Farms Ontario site IS the Haggerty Creek farm. The two entities are not separate farms; the AIVA hub operates on the Baresich land.

Why the JV structure matters

Two distinct observations:

1. 50/50 farmer-cooperative hybrid as a CAAIN-deployer substrate. Haggerty AgRobotics’ CAAIN §1.5 project deployed autonomous-manure robotics on a farm whose operating entity is half-owned by a farmer co-operative. The CAAIN programme routinely rewards founders-as-deployers (“financial institutions… don’t like lending for a theoretical product,” Chuck Baresich, who previously worked at FCC), but the farm substrate itself is rarely co-operative-held. Most CAAIN projects (CATTLEytics, SomaDetect, Milk Moovement, P&P Optica, mode40, Raven OMNiPOWER, Super GeoAI) deploy on private-operator farms. Haggerty Creek Ltd. is the one named case where the operator-farm is half-owned by a 100%-farmer-owned co-operative.

2. Co-operative as a deployer-side actor, not just a funder. The CCA co-operative voice in the Canadian agrifood data-governance discussion (CCSC at U Saskatchewan, Murray Fulton et al., Digital Technologies and the Big Data Revolution in the Canadian Agricultural Sector, August 2021, SSHRC + Future Skills funded) has been structural argument; AGRIS Co-operative as a deployer of CAAIN-funded autonomous robotics is operational evidence. AGRIS Co-operative’s “policy applicators” framing (GROWMARK SOURCE Spring 2025) — that the FS System’s AGRIS affiliate works “to ensure Ontario’s farmers have a voice in key policy decisions” — is the co-operative-as-deployer posture that the Innovation Farms Ontario hub institutionalizes.

Five distinct entities; the Baresich-AGRIS joint venture is the operating-farm entity that all four downstream actors depend on.

Innovation Farms Ontario — the AIVA hub at the Haggerty farm

Innovation Farms Ontario is the most concrete Canadian deployment of the AIVA Network’s farmer-centric validation model in Ontario. Four partners:

1. FCC — 100% invested in Canadian ag & food; AgExpert is the data backbone (“Innovation Farms Ontario powered by FCC AgExpert”); AIVA Network co-founder.
2. Western Fair Association (The Grove at Western Fair District, London ON) — not-for-profit agricultural society; the convening-space partner.
3. Haggerty AgRobotics — the on-farm deployment partner.
4. RHA Ventures Inc. — London ON venture capital and mentorship firm; the deal-flow / accelerator layer.

The hub offers “one connection point to real farmers & available farmland in Southwestern Ontario — connecting you to the networks you need to commercialize your product faster.” A second Innovation Farms site exists in Niagara (separate farm, not named in primary sources).

The geographic particularity: Bothwell / Chatham-Kent is small-parcel southwestern Ontario — explicitly distinct from Western broad-acre. The Haggerty farm is a sharp-sandy-soil corn country context. Any agritech validated here carries different soil, scale, and drainage assumptions than Saskatchewan or Manitoba validation. This is the Ontario-specific deployment context the AIVA Network added in mid-2026 (alongside EMILI Manitoba, Olds College Alberta, Area X.O Ottawa).

Adjacent infrastructure

• Haggerty Creek Ltd.’s research collaboration with Nortera and University of Guelph (Aug 21, 2026 Instagram) — vegetable-processing R&D, an adjacent line beyond grain.
• Western Fair District / The Grove — London ON ag/food business hub. Western Fair is one of Canada’s oldest and largest agricultural societies.
• RHA Ventures and RH Accelerator — the VC arm; “519 Growth Fund” appears in partner logos, suggesting southwestern Ontario VC infrastructure.
• Grain Discovery (Picton ON) — also CAAIN-funded, also Ontario-based; separate farm-substrate cluster.

Why this unit

The Haggerty cluster is the operating example of three things our other Canadian units name abstractly:

1. The Baresich FCC-alumnus / CAAIN-quote lens on the bank-financing gap (existing corpus cites Chuck Baresich’s FCC-history framing as the canonical quote). This unit surfaces the farm substrate that the quote comes from.
2. The CAAIN project-deployed-on-a-farmer-cooperative-JV structure. Most CAAIN projects deploy on private-operator farms; this is the one co-operative-JV case we have in the corpus.
3. The AIVA Network Ontario hub named in the existing corpus is located at the Haggerty Creek farm. The AIVA Network unit references Innovation Farms Ontario as one of four hubs; this unit makes the substrate-firm explicit.

Critical context

• The Justin Baresich role is under-publicized relative to Chuck’s. Justin is named on the Innovation Farms Ontario partner list and on all Haggerty Creek press, but his day-to-day function (operator vs. co-owner) is not publicly distinguished from Chuck’s. Worth tracking if there is ever a specific sustainability / succession question.
• AGRIS Co-operative Ltd. is named only once in the field guide (in the funder-convenor substrate scan §10 — but only via CCSC, not as a Haggerty JV partner). The Chatham-Kent GROWMARK-affiliated co-operative is the structural piece most under-mapped; see proposed unit agris-co-operative-ltd.md.
• RHA Ventures is mentioned in scans/2026-07-canada-cycle-fcc.md context as an Innovation Farms Ontario partner, but no dedicated unit exists. Worth tracking as a southwestern Ontario VC anchor.
• The second Innovation Farms Ontario site in Niagara is named on the Innovation Farms Ontario site but its farm-substrate is not named in our sources. Province-by-province AIVA expansion is a structural observation the corpus should track.
• No farm-data-governance public framework at Haggerty Creek Ltd. or AGRIS Co-operative. The AgExpert data backbone is FCC’s product, used by Haggerty AgRobotics for Innovation Farms Ontario data — but the data-licensing terms are private contract terms. G-316.
