As of the second quarter of 2025, only 1.8 per cent of Canadian agricultural businesses were using AI, compared to 12.2 per cent across other Canadian industries.

Additional figures from the same FCC / Deloitte Canada report (July 2026):

Source. Statistics Canada published the underlying data (referenced via https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/11-621-m/11-621-m2025008-eng.htm). FCC and Deloitte Canada synthesised and contextualised the figures in AI in Canadian Agriculture: Present Challenges and Future Prospects (released July 14, 2026).

FCC’s framing of the gap. The 1.8% / 12.2% gap is real but FCC attributes it to systemic weaknesses, not technology availability — fragmented digital infrastructure, talent shortages, capital constraints, historically unclear governance frameworks.

What this unit is doing in the taxonomy

This is the field guide’s first statistic claim-type unit. The earlier units have been example (specific deployments) and claim (assertions about patterns). A statistic unit is the canonical place for a single quantitative fact with a defined methodology and source. Useful because talks often need a headline number, and that number should be traceable to a specific data source with explicit freshness.
