Super GeoAI Technology (Saskatoon, SK) — GeoAI wheat grading

Dr. Weiping Zeng, founder of Super GeoAI Technology Inc. (SGA). PhD University of Alberta 2002+. Faculty University of Saskatchewan.

Phase 1 (2021–Feb 2023). Developed working prototype. R&D continues toward eventual commercialization.

Phase 2 (to Dec 2024). Launched Android + iOS apps with several hundred farmer downloads. Expanded to Canola + peas. Integration with VeriGrain (Saskatoon) sampling technology. Outcome: 28 employees, target 40 by early 2025. Five objective grading factors (Ergot, Fusarium Damaged Kernels, Hard Vitreous Kernels, Sprout, Sawfly) and two subjective grading factors (frost/heat stress damage, Green) in CWRS kernels.

It’s as stressful as it is critical to their survival. And when I thought about that, it occurred to me there had to be a way to remove the subjectivity from this process, which would reassure buyer and seller.”

CAAIN funding as the leveller. “CAAIN’s endorsement and funding for the project’s first phase in December 2021 served as a lifeline for us at a time when our future was uncertain. Founded on January 18, 2020, SGA is an Agtech startup that faced a pivotal moment in late 2021. CAAIN’s support not only bolstered my decision to press forward as an entrepreneur. It also catalysed our remarkable growth, expanding our team to 28 full-time employees within two years and setting a target of 40 by early 2025.”

Grain Discovery Corp. (Picton, ON) — B2B grain sustainability platform

B2B platform allowing Canada’s grain sector to collect and report field-level sustainable data. Active 2026. Distinct from grading — sustainability reporting for grain supply chains.

A.U.G. Signals (Toronto, ON) — broadacre drought severity

Goal. Develop a crop-specific, phenology-sensitive Drought Severity Index (DSI) for daily monitoring of crop drought stress at both regional (20 m) and field-level (3.5 m) scales, using AI and multi-source data including satellite and drone imagery, climate records, soil moisture, and field observations.

Data sources. Multispectral from Sentinel-2/3, Landsat-8/9 and drones; agroclimatic from ECCC, Manitoba provincial, on-farm sensors; soil moisture from provincial network and in-field probes; ground-truthing from CID handheld spectrometers. Testing site: Pennmann Farms (operational diversity) + Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI).

Four-year window. Historical data 2021, 2025 (severe drought years); 2026, 2027 (different climatic conditions). Backup: 2022-2024.

VeriGrain (Saskatoon, SK) — grain sampling technology

Saskatoon-based grain sampling technology partner for Super GeoAI Phase 2. VeriGrain’s sampling technology is integrated with GeoAI’s grading. Together, the two Saskatoon-based companies are positioned to “bring the grain industry into the 21st century and stop relying on inconsistent, subjective approaches to assessing grain value.”
